When I do dishes I often let the water run as I wash, I think it helps me get things cleaner. Every time I do this I feel twinge of guilt, I don’t like to waste anything, especially water. Next year every time I do dishes, I’ll have to work a little for the water and it will become more precious to me. That is a trait I want my kids to grow up with. I want them to notice where things come from and understand the hard work that went into picking or sewing or building and then shipping most of the products we use.
My biggest problem with waste in the current house, other than packing all our stuff away and throwing things away … is Tucker Mac’s fascination with water, dumping it out, spraying it, running through sprinklers, spilling it, flooding sandboxes.
Our goal for the year is to use less resources, recycle what we do use and try and find things we have to buy (like clothes) second hand. We will travel on waste veggie oil when we can, use power from the sun, live in a (super)small space, we’ll use less water, we’ll try and buy food that’s local and in season. We’ll bike or walk whenever possible. We will be mindful of the waste that we create. I’ve been trying to figure out composting in an RV…
